Si Vintners

Si Vintners is two qualified married winemakers, Sarah and Iwo, who in September of 2010 purchased a 30 acre estate with 20 acres under vine (majority planted in 1978). The property is situated just south of the Margaret River township in an area called Rosa Glen. Since purchasing the property, the vineyard has been farmed 100% organic/biodynamic. All wines are made without any of the usual additives used in commercial winemaking, apart from a small sulphur addition at bottling. Wines are bottled without fining or filtration, as Sarah and Iwo believe a little sediment in the bottom of the bottle only creates a more authentic wine.

Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon Halcyon

Some of the original Cabernet vines in Margs. Kind of a big deal. This is a big, brooding and almost traditional style of Margaret River Cabernet... Except for one exception - it's natural. A rare commodity in a region that relies heavily on commercial agriculture and winemaking. Indeed, this is a rare wine: only 250 cases were produced.

Margaret River Pinot Noir Halcyon

There's definitely older Pinot vines in Australia, but not many in Margaret River. You'll also hear people say that they shouldn't grow Pinot in Margs... And they're probably right, except this vineyard is almost an hours drive from the top of the region, past Witchcliffe at the southern end of Margaret River, which basically means it's in another solar system. This is 100% whole bunch for four or five days, then as ferment kicks off, it is put through the destemmer and open ferments for three or four weeks, then goes to older french oak for just thirteen months before bottling.

Margaret River Sophie Rosé

This comes from some of the oldest plantings of Pinot Noir in Margaret River. Low cropping 35 year old Pinot Noir planted in Karri loam over decomposed granite/white clay soils, grown biodynamically and harvested according to ripeness with a focus on natural acidity. Hand harvested, whole bunch pressed and spontaneously fermented in concrete eggs followed by eight months aging in old French oak barriques. Battonage for the first three months the wine was retained on lees until bottling. Made with no additives only a minimal sulphur addition at bottling. No fining or filtration.

Margaret River White

Chardonnay and Sémillon seem to be easy bedfellows, particularly for early complexity and ready consumption. The Sémillon (70%) is fermented in concrete eggs and hand-harvested from the Si home block, the Chardonnay (30%) from a vineyard managed by Iwo and Sarah. The fruit was hand harvested, whole bunch pressed and naturally fermented in a mixture of concrete eggs (50%), large format french oak (30%) and stainless steel (20%). Kept on lees until just prior to bottling (9 months). Bottled unfiltered and unfined, no additives only a minimal sulphur addition at bottling.
