Sheldon Winery

Sheldon is a “Micro-Winery” crafting single vineyard designate wines. The grapes are sustainably farmed, hand harvested and basket pressed. Many small lots are hand bottled and hand labeled. A few special vineyards only yield enough for a single barrel (just 25 cases).

The Sheldon’s have worked hard to remain true to their dream. Their winery is a labor of love. They apply a minimalist approach to winemaking. After harvesting and sorting clusters by hand, fermentation goes along slowly and naturally in small open top fermenters. Punch downs, of the fermenting grapes, are done by hand many times a day. They gently press using the 3/4 ton basket press. The new wine is aged in primarily neutral French Oak, allowing the flavors of the vineyard and vines to take center stage. The wines are gravity racked according to lunar cycles, until being sent to bottle unfiltered and unfined.

Ripken Petite Sirah

The Petite Syrah is sourced from the Ripkin Vineyard in Lodi. The low lying vineyard is composed of mostly limestone soil. The grapes were basket pressed, whole cluster. The wine was aged in 20% new and the balance seasoned French oak barrels. The wines is full bodied and true to the fruit driven character of Petite. This wine displays velvety soft tannins and surprisingly balanced acidity, leaving the palate unburdened by the chunky coarse grip that often marks this varietal. Bold and elegant! Intensely aromatic, with flavorful deep berry flavors that possess a balance of refreshing acidity and supple tannins unusual for this varietal and appellation. 380 cases produced.

Pinot Noir Roma

Roma is situated at 1,800 feet elevation at the deep end of the Anderson Valley. The vineyard is planted with a Pommard Pinot clone. The juice was basket pressed and fermented in small, open-top fermenters without the addition of sulfur, and partial whole cluster. The resulting wine was aged in two and three-year-old French oak. The 2010 Roma Pinot offers aromas of red cherry, wildflowers, violets and roses. Flavors of fresh raspberries, bing cherries with hints of white pepper lead to a round silky palate, lively acidity and a lingering finish. This is an impressive effort!
"The Tron of Pinot Noir. For Wine Geeks: delicate, beautiful, precise, complex and futuristic…it is what is in my glass all day." -Tobe

Reviews:

Dylan and Tobe Sheldon know they have created a special wine with this 2010 Sheldon Pinot Noir “Roma’s Vineyard” Anderson Valley and they should be very proud of this stunning wine. They have allowed this balanced and delicate Pinot Noir to show the most feminine and perfumed qualities it could and timed the bottling to perfection, not letting oak or time take away any of the subtleties or pretty nature. This wine that Dylan likens to a Sauvigny Les Beaune is not a blockbuster or intense, but it is glorious and layered with bright and sexy fruit, floral tones, soft minerallity and lingers on the finish like a first kiss. This wine is a little bit of magic, and I’m totally smitten, I would beg, cheat and steal to have more!

Pinot Noir Marin County

The Kendrick vineyard is a North-East facing 8.5 acre vineyard that straddles the Marin & Sonoma County Line. The grapes were crushed into into small open top macro bins, partial whole clusters, cold soaked, and fermented on the cooler side to retain the delicate aromatics and varietal character of Pinot Noir. After 13 days the juice was basket pressed, and aged in a mix of 1 new Mercier Vosges & 5 seasoned French oak barrels. The 2017 Marin County Pinot offers engaging aromas of cherries and berries, candied apple, earth and subtle oak. Delicious flavors of black cherries, black raspberries and spice finishing with a boatload of flavor. Well-mannered fine grain tannins and refined acidity make for a cozy wine that is drinking perfectly now.

"An evening with Betty Boop and Jessica Rabbit hanging out at the soda fountain . . . an adult sensory experience with child like whimsy."

Black raspberry and cherry on the nose, with a spiciness emerging with air. Juicy and expansive, offering open-knit dark berry flavors and an enticing note of candied flowers. Tangy acidity adds cut and focus to the long, clean, energetic finish. I really like this wine's precision.
