Bella Winery

Bella, located in the heart of Dry Creek Valley, is a small winery owned and operated by Scott and Lynn Adams. In 1995 Scott went into partnership with his father and three brothers and purchased their first vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley. Today Bella produces extraordinary wines from several ancient vine hillside vineyards, Lilly Hill and Belle Canyon in Dry Creek, and Big River Ranch in the Alexander Valley. They specialize in Zinfandel. Viticulturist John Clendenen, consultant enologist Michael Dashe, and chief winemaker John Healy make up the Bella team.

Dry Creek Zinfandel

Fruit for our Dry Creek Valley zinfandel is sourced from 10- to 30-year-old vines on our Lily Hill Estate, which is located on the western slope of the Dry Creek Valley. The fruit was then hand-sorted and destemmed, and the lots were combined and fermented in closed-top tanks for 15 days. Aging occurred for 14 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels (20 percent new). This traditionally styled Zinfandel displays intense dark fruit aromatics alongside enticing gingerbread spice notes. Well balanced and juicy on the palate, it finishes with a satisfying hint of toasty vanilla oak. Only 950 cases were produced.

Lilly Hill Estate Zinfandel

Lily Hill’s 10 acres of old-vine zinfandel were planted in 1915. The weathered vines give us ultra-ripe, concentrated fruit that provides intense flavor and complexity to this wine. The grapes for this Zin were harvested from six different “micro-lots” on the Lily Hill estate. The fruit was then hand-sorted and destemmed. Each lot was fermented in closed-top tanks for 15-20 days, and the maceration was conducted with a submerged-cap tank system to allow for maximum extraction of color, flavor, and tannin. Aging occurred for 14 months in primarily French oak barrels. This Zin is co-fermented with 5% of Syrah, which brings out the wine’s wild animal side!

Big River Zinfandel

This Zin was made from 14 acres of vines planted in 1905; these ancient vines provide intense, dark, ripe fruit. Big River fruit was hand-picked, de-stemmed and underwent a 16-day fermentation in a submerged-cap tank. The fruit was kept on the skins for a full month, allowing extended maceration for the wine. Aging occurred for 18 months in a combination of French and American oak, with 20% new barrels.

Hills & Benches Zinfandel

93% Zinfandel 7% Petite Syrah fermented for 10 days in a submerged cap tank. Aging occurred in a combination of French and American oak, 20% of it new. The concept behind this wine is the artful blending of hillside and benchland fruit. The hillside vineyard, perched on Bradford Mountain, provides the dark concentrated fruit, that only stressed hillside vineyards can provide. The Bench comes from two nearby benchland properties, with nutrient rich riverbed soils.
