Ronnie Sanders of Vine Street Imports, arranged a tour of South Eastern Australia for members of the Vision Wine Brands team, in the summer of 2012. Australian wine is undergoing a resurgence in the American market, and Vine Street has their fingers on the pulse of that resurgence. Mr. Sanders has been feverishly seeking out the next generation of winemakers to compliment his existing portfolio of star winemakers. The next generation, educated in France, Italy, Spain and California have returned to Australia eager to produce wines that are clearly Australian but have an old world soul. The wines we tasted were mostly farmed sustainably, produced in minimal quantities, displayed lower alcohol levels, higher acids,  and were packaged creatively.

A special thanks goes out to Elena and Zar Brooks, of Dandelion Vineyards, who hosted us for several days in their spectacular McLaren Vale home overlooking the Great Southern Ocean. Highlights of the visit included: A tour of the Vale with Zar and a visit to Dandelion Vineyards, in Barossa, with Karl Lindner; Lamb Shank and Grenache with Justin Lane of Alpha Box and Dice; A tour of the biodynamic vineyards of Drew Noon; Home made pasta paired with the VERY rare and remarkable wines of Fraser McKinley at Sami Odi; Roasted Lamb and Mothers Milk with Matt Gant and John Restas of First Drop; Taras Ochota's high flying barrel tasting at Ochota Barrels; any time spent with George Shinas and Stephen Black. The surprise of the tour? There is some seriously good Chardonnay being produced. We are looking forward to the arrival of new additions to the portfolio BK Wines and Rusden.
